About this course

Most software now runs on rented infrastructure, and knowing how that infrastructure works — and what it costs — is useful whether you build applications, support them or manage the teams that do. This course explains cloud computing from first principles and then puts it into practice on Amazon Web Services (AWS): identity and access, compute, storage, networking, databases, monitoring and security, finishing with a guided deployment of a small web application.

Classes are live and hands-on. You work in your own AWS account, and cost safety comes first: in the first week you set up a budget with alerts, protect the root user and learn to read the current free tier and credit terms, which AWS changes from time to time. Every lab ends with a clean-up step so nothing is left running, and services that can cost money even briefly — such as load balancers and NAT gateways — are pointed out before you create them. Doubt-clearing time is built into every module.

What this course is not: it is not official AWS training, it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Amazon Web Services, and it does not award an AWS certification. Many of the foundations it covers will be familiar if you later choose to sit an AWS certification exam, but exam fees are not included and the course is not exam preparation.

Why AWS? The ideas — regions, identity, virtual networks, object storage, managed databases, metrics and alarms — exist in every major cloud. We learn them on one provider in depth so the concepts are concrete, and point out the equivalent services elsewhere as they come up.

Schedules and batches

Choose the schedule that fits your week. Both teach the same syllabus and the same 40 live hours; only the number of weeks differs.

Schedule comparison for Cloud Computing & AWS Foundations
ScheduleDaysLive hours a weekClassesLength before holidays
Weekday IntensiveMon–Fri, 1 h each540about 8 weeks
Weekend EveningSat & Sun evenings, 2 h each420about 10 weeks
  • Weekday Intensive classes are one hour, so each 2 h syllabus session is taught across consecutive weekday classes.
  • Weekend Evening classes run on Saturday and Sunday evenings; the exact time and time zone are set before a batch is confirmed.
  • Public holidays are not class days unless the instructor confirms a class. Holidays, instructor leave and cancelled classes move the end date later so no live hours are lost.
  • Plan about 4 hours a week of exercises, assignments and project work outside class.
  • Group, Duo and One-to-One courses all follow one of these two schedules.

Final project

Deploy, monitor and tear down a small web application on AWS. You receive a simple web application and its database script. Working in your own account, you deliver:

  • An architecture diagram and a short design note: which services you chose, why, and what you deliberately left out.
  • A custom VPC with public and private subnets, route tables and security groups that allow only the traffic the application needs.
  • The application running on EC2 behind a load balancer, with an IAM role (not access keys) for any AWS access it needs.
  • A managed database in RDS in a private subnet, with credentials stored in Secrets Manager, and static files served from an S3 bucket that is not public by default.
  • CloudWatch metrics, a log group and at least two alarms, plus CloudTrail enabled for the account.
  • A cost estimate made with the AWS Pricing Calculator, a screenshot of your budget and alerts, and a clean-up checklist showing every resource you created and how you deleted it.

Reviewed live in the final week: you walk through the architecture, show the application and its monitoring working, answer questions about your choices, and confirm the clean-up.

Questions about Cloud Computing & AWS Foundations

How long is Cloud Computing & AWS Foundations?

40 hours of live online teaching: about 8 weeks on the Weekday Intensive schedule (Mon–Fri, 1 h a class), or about 10 weeks on the Weekend Evening schedule (Sat & Sun evenings, 2 h a class), before holidays. Plan about 4 hours a week of exercises and project work as well.

When are the classes?

No batch dates have been announced yet. The proposed pattern is Sat and Sun evenings, 2 hours each (time to be confirmed); it is confirmed when a batch is scheduled. Book a free consultation to hear about the next batch.

What do I need before I start?
  • Comfortable using a computer, a web browser and installing software
  • Basic familiarity with a terminal is helpful; the commands you need are taught in class
  • No programming experience required; reading a short script is helpful but not essential
  • Your own AWS account for the labs: AWS asks for a payment card when you sign up, and any usage charges on your account are billed to you by AWS
  • A laptop running Windows, macOS or Linux with a modern browser (8 GB RAM recommended)
Will I get a certificate?

Yes — a ZORK Academy course completion certificate when you meet this course’s requirements, listed under Certificate. Paying for the course does not by itself earn the certificate, and it is not a university or government-recognised qualification.

Are classes recorded?

Where the academy has permission to record a class, the recording may be shared with your batch for revision. Recordings do not replace live classes, and attendance counts towards the certificate.

How do I pay?

The fee is a one-time payment in Indian rupees through Razorpay once online enrolment opens; ZORK Academy never sees your card or UPI details. The fee shown is proposed and may change before enrolment opens. Refunds follow the refund and cancellation policy in force when you pay.
