About this course

The MERN stack — MongoDB, Express, React and Node.js — lets one team build the browser interface, the API and the data layer in a single language. This course takes you from writing JavaScript to running a complete application in production: a typed React front end, a well-designed Express API, a MongoDB database that stays fast as it grows, and the testing, security and deployment work that real projects need.

Classes are live and hands-on. Across the course you build one application step by step — a booking and scheduling service for a small training centre, with learners, instructors, batches and payments — so each new topic lands in code you already understand. Every week has time set aside for doubt-clearing, and each module closes with an assignment, quiz or project milestone that is reviewed with feedback. Where recordings are made available they are for revision only; they are not a substitute for attending the live classes.

Why TypeScript throughout? The same types describe your API responses, your database documents and your React props, so many mistakes are caught before the code runs. You learn plain modern JavaScript first, then add types gradually, so nothing is magic.

What this course is not: it does not teach programming from zero. If you have never written a loop or a function in any language, start with a programming foundations course first.

Syllabus

Every session is a live class. Module hours add up to the course total.

Schedules and batches

Choose the schedule that fits your week. Both teach the same syllabus and the same 108 live hours; only the number of weeks differs.

ScheduleDaysLive hours a weekClassesLength before holidays
Weekday IntensiveMon–Fri, 1 h each5108about 22 weeks
Weekend EveningSat & Sun evenings, 2 h each454about 27 weeks
  • Weekday Intensive classes are one hour, so each 2 h syllabus session is taught across consecutive weekday classes.
  • Weekend Evening classes run on Saturday and Sunday evenings; the exact time and time zone are set before a batch is confirmed.
  • Public holidays are not class days unless the instructor confirms a class. Holidays, instructor leave and cancelled classes move the end date later so no live hours are lost.
  • Plan about 6 hours a week of exercises, assignments and project work outside class.
  • Group, Duo and One-to-One courses all follow one of these two schedules.

Final project

Build and deploy a clinic appointment-booking platform. A small chain of physiotherapy clinics needs a web application where patients book, reschedule and cancel appointments; therapists manage their weekly availability; and clinic administrators see bookings, no-shows and utilisation per clinic. You receive a written brief with user stories and acceptance criteria, and you build it individually or in a pair.

Deliverables

  • A React and TypeScript front end with routing, forms validated by Zod, server state in TanStack Query and loading, empty and error states on every data view.
  • An Express API with versioned routes, request validation, a consistent error format and role-based access for patients, therapists and administrators.
  • A MongoDB schema with documented indexes for the main queries, transactions or safe conditional updates that prevent double-booking, and at least two aggregation reports (for example, weekly utilisation per therapist).
  • Authentication with secure, HTTP-only session cookies or short-lived tokens, password hashing and rate-limited sign-in.
  • Automated tests: unit tests for booking rules, Supertest API tests including an authorisation test proving one patient cannot read another’s bookings, and one Playwright journey for booking an appointment.
  • A Dockerfile and Docker Compose setup, a GitHub Actions workflow that runs lint, type checks and tests, and a live deployment with environment-based configuration and no secrets in the repository.
  • Redis caching for one read-heavy endpoint, with a short note on how the cache is invalidated.
  • A README with setup steps, an architecture diagram and a list of known limitations.

Optional extension: an AI-assisted feature, such as summarising a therapist’s free-text session notes, that is opt-in, explains what is sent to the AI provider and handles provider errors gracefully.

The project is presented and reviewed live in the final weeks, with feedback on code quality, security and design decisions.

What do I need before I start?
  • Basic programming in any language: variables, conditions, loops and functions
  • HTML and CSS basics: you can build a simple static page and style it
  • Comfortable using a terminal to run commands and navigate folders
  • A laptop with at least 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended for Docker) running Windows, macOS or Linux
Will I get a certificate?

Yes — a ZORK Academy course completion certificate when you meet this course’s requirements, listed under Certificate. Paying for the course does not by itself earn the certificate, and it is not a university or government-recognised qualification.

Are classes recorded?

Where the academy has permission to record a class, the recording may be shared with your batch for revision. Recordings do not replace live classes, and attendance counts towards the certificate.

How do I pay?

The fee is a one-time payment in Indian rupees through Razorpay once online enrolment opens; ZORK Academy never sees your card or UPI details. The fee shown is proposed and may change before enrolment opens. Refunds follow the refund and cancellation policy in force when you pay.
